“We envision a world in which access to safe, decent, and affordable housing has been prioritized at the federal level, facilitated through diverse service systems at the state level, and ensured at the local level through integrated, equitable, coordinated and family-centered strategies.”

Our experience includes over 40 years developing, testing and training communities on innovative approaches to combatting housing instability and homelessness — with a focus on vulnerable families with children.

Our work is grounded by the real-life experiences of vulnerable families and children and the challenges they face daily. We believe that local programs and communities are the “social laboratories” in which the process of moving from ideas to action to impact originates and occurs.

What we offer.

We provide place-based and individualized needs assessments, program development and implementation strategies through collaborative and integrated programs, staffing and services. Our approach facilitates the integration of a housing-focused framework into existing protocols and practices. This results in both cost-effective and responsive interventions to help mediate the detrimental impacts of housing instability on child and family health and wellbeing.

Who we serve.

We consult to diverse mainstream and community-based services systems — including education, early childhood programs, child and family services, youth services, healthcare and mental healthcare, workforce development., homeless prevention and intervention programs, private and nonprofit housing developers and government entities at all levels.

“A child’s teacher, the afterschool counselor or the nurse at a local community health clinic may hear a family’s first cry for help.”

Direct services staff see the impact of housing instability on the children and families they serve, but often feel helpless to respond. Although the detrimental impacts of housing instability on cognitive, emotional, physical and overall developmental growth are well-documented — mainstream and community-based service systems generally fail to include screening for housing instability in programs and services in a meaningful way .

Our work is guided by the principles of inclusion, equality, equity and basic human rights.
